Fellowship deadline calendar 2026 to 2027: every field, month by month

A month-by-month fellowship deadline calendar for 2026 to 2027 covering research, journalism and the arts, policy and leadership, technology and AI, health, climate and human rights, checked against official pages.

A fellowship is often the quiet turning point in a career. It is the year a journalist finally writes the long investigation, a researcher moves to the lab that changes their work, or an organiser steps back long enough to think. It is also, very often, the opportunity people hear about a week after it closed.

This fellowship deadline calendar collects more than 50 international fellowships across every field we cover: research and science, journalism and the arts, policy and leadership, technology and AI, health, climate and human rights. Every date below was checked on the fellowship’s own official page on October 30, 2026. Where a page does not yet show the next date, we say so instead of guessing.

How to use this calendar

  • Find your field in the list at the end, or scan the months for what is closing soon.
  • Read the time zone. Many fellowships close at a set hour in their own time zone, and some ask for reference letters a week or two after the main deadline.
  • Check eligibility first. Some fellowships are open to every nationality; others limit places or require work authorisation in the host country. Each listing explains the rules.
  • Confirm on the official page. A few pages print a day without a year, and we have noted this in the listing. Always check the official page before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a fellowship and a scholarship?

A scholarship usually pays for a degree. A fellowship more often supports a period of work, research, reporting or training, sometimes without a degree at the end. Some programmes use either word, so read what each one actually offers.

Are these fellowships paid?

Many are, but not all. Some pay a stipend or salary, some cover travel and housing, and a few are unpaid but offer access to a university and its networks. Each listing shows the funding the official page describes.

Can I apply from any country?

Most fellowships in this calendar accept applicants from many countries, but rules differ. Some require a visa sponsor, work authorisation or a host institution, so check eligibility in each listing before you start.

How far ahead should I start?

Start at least six weeks before the deadline. Many applications need a research or project proposal, a writing sample and two or three references, and referees need time too.

Prepare your application

A strong fellowship application needs the same skills as a scholarship one. Read how to write a scholarship motivation letter, see the scholarship deadline calendar for degree funding, and browse every listing on our Opportunities page.
