AI scholarships and fellowships 2027: funded degrees, research roles and summer schools

AI scholarships and fellowships for 2027, checked against official pages: fully funded AI master's and PhDs, paid research fellowships, AI safety programmes and machine learning summer schools.

Artificial intelligence is the subject everyone wants to study and few can afford to. Tuition for a master’s in machine learning can be high, and the best-known labs can feel closed to outsiders. The good news is that a growing number of universities, research institutes and companies now pay talented people to learn and research AI.

This guide brings together AI scholarships and fellowships for 2027 that are open to international applicants, from fully funded degrees to paid research roles, AI safety programmes and short summer schools. Every detail was checked on the programme’s official page on October 30, 2026. Where a page does not state funding or a date, we say so.

AI summer schools

Short, intensive schools are a good way to learn from leading researchers and meet others in the field.

How to choose

  1. Decide what you need. A degree (master’s or PhD), a research role, or a short school to test your interest.
  2. Check the funding details. “Funded” can mean very different things. Some programmes pay tuition, a stipend and housing; others pay a stipend only, or none at all.
  3. Check eligibility carefully. Some company fellowships only accept students at named universities, and some programmes give priority to certain regions.
  4. Prepare a strong research statement. Most AI programmes ask what you want to work on and why. Our guide on how to write a scholarship motivation letter applies here too.
  5. Know the AI rules for applications. Ironically, many programmes limit how you may use AI to write your application. Read can I use AI on my university application? first.

Frequently asked questions

Are there fully funded AI master’s degrees for international students?

Yes. On their official pages, MBZUAI in the UAE and KAUST in Saudi Arabia describe funding packages for admitted students, and Erasmus Mundus joint master’s programmes in AI offer EU-funded scholarships to some students. Check each programme’s current terms.

Do I need a computer science degree?

Not always. Many AI programmes want a strong background in maths, statistics or a related field, and several AI safety and governance programmes welcome people from policy, law and the social sciences. Read each eligibility section.

What if a deadline has already passed?

Most of these programmes run every year. Note the usual window and prepare for the next round, and check our fellowship deadline calendar for other dates.
