The Funai Foundation for Information Technology supports about 15 students doing a PhD at overseas research universities, mainly in information science and technology and wider STEM fields. It provides USD 36,000 a year for living costs, up to USD 14,000 a year toward tuition and health insurance, generally for 3 years (2 for US programmes).
Who can apply
Japanese citizens or permanent residents who graduated from a Japanese university and have completed or will complete a Japanese master’s programme (work experience may substitute in some cases), aiming for a PhD overseas.
