Supports short-term exchange study of 8 days to 1 year at partner universities abroad while the student stays enrolled in Japan. It pays JPY 80,000 to 120,000 a month depending on region, plus a JPY 160,000 travel grant for students who meet the household income standard.
Who can apply
Japanese citizens or permanent residents enrolled at a Japanese university that runs an approved programme, accepted by the partner institution and judged by their university to need financial support. It cannot be combined with Tobitate! or the JASSO graduate degree scholarship.
Deadline
Next deadline not announced yet. Students cannot apply to JASSO directly; each Japanese university selects candidates for its approved exchange programmes and sets its own deadlines.
